After two long weeks, I finally feel like I’ve got my sh*t together today.
But what happened in those two weeks?
A friend came to visit. Periods hit hard. Then, a disturbing piece of news set off a rage spiral that knocked me completely off balance. I felt like I was out of everything—emotionally, mentally, just drained.
Today, though? I’m back. Work’s flowing, tasks are getting done, and honestly, I feel pretty good.
Then, I chuckled.
"Got it together? Really? How long will that last—tonight? Tomorrow?"
Maybe if the universe is kind, I’ll make it three days before I’m back to trying to pull it all together again.
But what does it even mean to "have our sh*t together?"
To me, it feels like we’re chasing this idea of being in control of our lives—how we act, react, feel, and deal with whatever comes our way. I think I’ve got it together when I feel motivated and manage to get things done the way I planned.
That sense of control brings this fleeting confidence, like, "Okay, I’ve got this. I can make things happen."
But doesn't that sound a little like perfectionism? Trying to have these perfect days every day?
Isn’t it this subtle capitalist whisper telling us that our worth depends on how much we do and what we achieve?
This constant chase for control—it’s just a feeling. And like all feelings, it doesn’t stick around.
I’ve spent so many days telling myself to "get my sh*t together," trying to force discipline. And in the process, I’ve wasted time beating myself up for not having it all together.
But are we even meant to have our sh*t together every day? Is that a realistic expectation?
I don’t think so.
And weirdly, I find comfort in that. Even on a good day like today, I know it’s okay if it doesn’t last.
Ever since I started getting curious about joy—and how we sabotage it—I’ve begun to notice more of these ingrained beliefs we rarely stop to question. Like they say -
You find what you are looking for!
And if you are or want to look for joy, I have something for you…
Joy Circle
If you're free this Saturday at 11 AM IST, I’m hosting an online space where we’ll dive into becoming more conscious about seeking joy in our lives. It’s going to be fun, interactive, and definitely interesting—I promise. By the end of the session, you’ll start noticing the little joys around you with a whole new awareness.
Little Joys
“Joy is always around if only we pause to acknowledge it.”
With life's burdens and big ambitions, it's easy to overlook our everyday joys. Let's practice noticing them together?
